The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, is completing a major phase II expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018. This expansion aims at improving the Hospital’s quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility in order to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to tertiary care, referral and teaching hospital.
We are seeking for enthusiastic and qualified experienced personnel for the following positions below:
Job Title: CONSULTANT GASTROENTEROLOGIST – (1 POSITION)
JOB SUMMARY
The consultant will provide clinical and academic leadership in internal medicine and gastrointestinal unit through development and implementation of an integrated clinical service and academic plan which aligned with the vision of the institution to develop tertiary care.
He/she will set the vision and actionable plan for the expansion of internal medicine and gastrointestinal services and comprehensive delivery of training of residents and clinical care within the department, participate in postgraduate medical education program, improve quality of care through role modeling, support the sustainability of the training programs and develop evidence-based clinical care guidelines and culture of continuous quality improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform comprehensive ERCP procedures
- Preform interventional procedures including direst per-oral cholangiospcopy, balloon sphincterotome, endoscopic , cyst gastrostomy and cystoduodesnostomy, naso- biliary drain placement for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), common bile duct, cystic duct and intrahepatic duct stones, gall bladder stenting at ERCP, choledoschopy, percutaneous endoscopy gastrostomy (PEG), pediatric Gl endoscopy procedures and others.
- Achieve case mix and volume targets for Gl sup-speciality.
- Coordinate clinical and education program for the department and develop a system to track and report learning metrics of individual residents.
- Train, mentor and supervise postgraduate students to be able to independently manage internal medicine and gastrointestinal problems and operations to the highest level of competency.
- Support in co-mentorship with department faculty members to develop clinical and teaching skills.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Medicine/board certified or fellow of their respective colleges in the field of surgery.
- Super specialty training of fellowship will be an added advantage
- MD/ MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine and/or Bachelor of Surgery )
- Certificate of Full Registration from Medical Council of Tanganyika
- Valid Retention Certificate from Medical Council of Tanganyika
- Demonstrated record of excellent clinical skills, a talent for teaching and interest in medical education
- Demonstrated record of high quality medical research and collaborative research teams
- Strategic and innovative thinking skills and the ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration » Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and to work flexibly with multiple reporting relationships.
- 5 years working experience in internal medicine and gastroenterologist services.
Job Title: ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON – (1 POSITION )
JOB SUMMARY
The Orthopedic Surgeon will lead clinical and academic program in orthopedic surgery and ensure delivery of quality services in an efficient and effective manner. He/she will set the vison and actionable plan for the expansion of Orthopedic Surgery and comprehensive delivery of training of residents and clinical care within the department, enhance the quality of the postgraduate medical education program, improve quality of care through role modeling, support the sustainability of the training programs and develop evidence- based clinical care guidelines and culture of continuous quality improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The responsibilities of the surgeon include professional, clinical, organizational, administrative and educational matters relevant to the sub-specialty services offered by the department. These include:
- Establish a vision for the orthopedic and establish a strong joint replacement services.
- Establish joint replacement services (knee, hip and others).
- Conduct arthroplasty services including total knee replacement.
- Undertake provision of comprehensive trauma and elective services to hospital and other clinics.
- Coordinate clinical and education program for the department and develop a system to track and report learning metrics of individual residents.
- Train, mentor and supervise postgraduate students to be able to independently manage orthopedic problems and operations to the highest level of competency.
- Support in co-mentorship with department faculty members to develop clinical and teaching skills.
- Assist in the development and further expansion of the trauma and orthopedic services develop his/her subspecialty interests in co-operation with the existing consultants so as to improve the range and quality of services provided.
- Achieved case mix and volume targets for orthopedic and trauma sub-specialty.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Orthopedic and Trauma/ board certified or fellow of their respective colleges in the field of surgery.
- Super specialty training of fellowship will be an added advantage
- MD/ MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine and/or Bachelor of Surgery)
- Certificate of Full Registration from Medical Council of Tanganyika
- Valid Retention Certificate from Medical Council of Tanganyika
