POSITION
: PROGRAM COORDINATOR    

REPORTS TO: SGR Director SUPERVISES: RCWs, Field Staff    

LOCATION: Tanzania STATUS: Fixed Term Contract  

  

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE    

The Program Coordinator oversees all coffee program activities conducted within Sustainable Growers Tanzania. The program coordinator will coordinate agronomy program planning, provide expert knowledge to the strategic visioning undertaken by program directors, and oversee timely and effective implementation of the Sustainable Growers Agronomy training program and additional value chain training.    

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES    

  • Oversee the planning process, and successful execution of agronomy programs and activities;
  • Manage budgets, coordinate monitoring and evaluation, and ensure delivery of results as per agreed-upon milestones and goals
  • Assess current cooperatives, Privates coffee CWS’s and governance structures and their performance;
  • Design and conduct training sessions in pre-harvesting and post-harvest best practices for coffee producers in their respective area/province in Tanzania;
  • Enable District Extension and Community Extension Officers to train other farmers to increase project outreach;
  • Create a database of SGR women beneficiaries enrolled in Sustainable Growers Tanzania;
  • Design and conduct for other programs funded through Sustainable Growers Tanzania when required;
  • Work with the SGR Director and other Managers to plan activities; 
  • Collaborate with partner cooperatives; private CWS’s to develop technical assistance plans that take into account immediate women needs and available technical and financial resources;
  • Identify service providers with the technical skills and capacity to provide training, consulting and advisory services;
  • Work in close partnership with Tanzania Coffee Board during the implementation of SGR Beneficiaries training and designing of Curriculum.
  • Manage the implementation of capacity building activities and supervise the RCWs team;
  • Supervise project implementation through regular field visits and close communication with cooperative partners, private coffee washing stations;  
  • Supervise the use of program resources related to the lead agronomy manager activity and ensure compliance with all appropriate policies and with project accounting systems and reporting;
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation and ensure delivery of results as per agreed-upon milestones and goals under the funder grant.
  • Organize the implementation of premium sharing Rewards program and ensure its efficient and effective implementation with women beneficiaries;
  • Design and organize Graduation and PSR Distributions;
  • Represent Sustainable Growers Tanzania at key events and give presentations on timely basis; 
  • Ensure all operations are integrated into government goals and objectives;
  • Work in close collaboration with Data Collection team to design the data survey;
  • Work in close collaboration with Cooperative Development Manager to ensure delivery results.
  • Submit reports of activities carried out in during training; 
  • Work in close collaboration with provincial and district leadership and communities.    


REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE    

  • Bachelor’s Degree in agronomy, environmental science, agriculture, natural resource management or related disciplines;
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience preferably working with international development projects/programs, focused on enterprise development, agriculture and/or agribusiness;
  • Knowledge of farming practices in Coffee as well as an understanding of the value chain;
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point and database management;
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and demonstrate good organizational skills;
  • Ability to maintain a professional working relationship within a team setting;
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations;
  • Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results;
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities;
  • Experience leading group tours and planning education events;
  • Ability to travel as required;
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license;
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili. French is an added advantage
