Overview of the role
The weekly Niambie radio programme has almost two million youth listeners. It provides a platform for young Tanzanians to examine the big questions and challenges they face. The programme seeks to enhance dialogue between young people and leaders, as well as examining opportunities for young Tanzanians to engage positively in community life and influence change in wider society. The project is now moving into an exciting new phase in which it will design new formats and content to help build women’s and girls’ agency and decision-making power and contribute to long-term social and behaviour change around the rights of women and girls in Tanzania.
We are looking for a Project Officer – Gender to support the day-to-day running of the project, with a specific focus on delivering gender equality investments across all its components.
Main duties & responsibilities
- Plan and manage events relating to gender equality, likely to include (but not be limited to) training events for staff and partners delivered by the Senior Policy Adviser or other expert(s).
- Participate in – and sometimes lead – the design and management of media production events on gender equality topics.
- Support the Project Manager in ensuring the design of production plans, media content and training materials maintain a consistent focus on building gender equality and contribute ideas for maximising the project’s wider contribution to gender equality.
- Support the Project Manager in tasks such as the co-ordination, planning, budgeting and reporting on all aspects of the project, logistics and procurement planning (including drafting ToRs for consultants), and managing the overall project’s detailed workplan.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of available literature and analysis of gender dynamics in Tanzania and assist in communicating this to the project staff, partners and regular freelances.
- Maintain and manage the Niambie project information database.
- Lead on the development of detailed budgets for project events such as gender equality trainings.
- Maintain an accurate and complete electronic filing system for important documents relating to the project.
- Understand and comply with the Safeguarding policy and the staff Code of Conduct.
- Participate in relevant mandatory training on Safeguarding and Respect at Work.
- Report any Safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the Country Director, or using the Whistleblowing Policy.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirements:
Essential
- At least one year’s experience of working on a donor-funded gender equality project in Tanzania.
- Demonstrable experience of managing safe, effective and efficient events.
- Demonstrable experience of managing relationships with external partners.
- Experience drafting clear project briefs, reports, Terms of Reference, contract details and other professional documents.
- Experience of supporting a project teams administrative, procurement, logistical and operational needs.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
Desirable
- Experience of planning and delivering training focused on gender.
- Experience of working in the media sector in Tanzania.
- Understanding of and commitment to, international standards of health and safety and safeguarding vulnerable people.
