Purpose of position

The purpose of this position is to diagnose and maintain machinery and equipment according to technical specification

and sound engineering practise. This would incorporate all Intstrumentation and mechanical aspects and would support

the overall objective of plant availability and production goals.

Main Functions

What are the key areas of responsibility?

  • Health, Safety and Legal Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Company and Client Health and Safety procedures and requirements
  •  Identify hazards and risks while performing daily tasks and employ adequate control measures to ensure all
  • work is performed safely. All work performed needs to have an associated continuous risk assessment.
  • Comply with legislative and operational requirements
  • Adhere to the Company and Client environmental management program

Functional Role

  •  Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements, standards and specifications
  • Perform daily inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, operational and Company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor
  • Develop, modify, construct and install all types of trade related equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment
  •  Ensure that all installations and equipment are safe and in good working order after task completio
  • Continuously monitor equipment failure and efficiency to improve trade specific equipment and systems
  •  Consult with production teams on maintenance activities that effects production
  • Supports the achievement of engineering availability and production performance levels
  • Ensure that maintenance related information is recorded and reported to the relevant planning office to support the maintenance of the planned/asset maintenance system
  •  Perform all Preventative maintenance schedules on time
  • Perform condition monitoring on plant equipment, acting decisively on any findings
  •  Perform break down maintenance, including standby and call-out duties
  •  Identify and report the need for equipment spares and assist in obtaining quotations for such
  • Manage any contractors allocated to assist on site work, ensuring their equipment is compliant and they follow all related policies and procedures
  •  Support and comply with all aspects of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or alternatives
  • Take care of all site issued tools and equipment, ensuring they are available and working at all times

Quality and Quantity outputs are achieved

  •  Ensure adherence to engineering quality standards in maintenance of equipment and machinery
  •  Reduce re-work People Management and Training
  •  Monitor and assign work to allocated assistants according to skill level and training
  • Coach and assist with on the job training assistants and learner ships e.g. safety, technical training Instrument Mechanician People & Culture

Financial

  •  Participate in cost saving initiatives and adhere to financial procedures
  • Customers (Internal and External)
  • Who are the people/teams that the incumbent will interface with?

Internal External

  • Maintenance Supervisor Contractors
  • Process Engineering colleagues

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Formal Qualification Required  / Advantageous
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Instrumentation/ Mechanical,
  • Instrument Mechanician)Valid Section 13 Trade test/Section 26(D) certificate 

Experience

  • Job Related Experience Required Time Span Essential / Advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience as a qualified Artisan 2 – 3 years Essential
  • Valid driver’s license code B, EB or C1 2years +
